I paint a window on your wall,
so if winter comes or fall,
you can choose any season,
for any reason
And if you really need time to stop
I'll make the sea out of your your bathtub:
you can lie in its shallows
and just be mellow
The next time we get together,
there'll be sunshine on your mental weather
I'll be your book of thoughts and stories
where you can write down autumn worries
and should you run out of pencil
I'll be your friend still
The next time we get together,
there'll be sunshine on my mental weather

Electric drama

the goose quill put an end to words,
now all the world's a sage
it sends out regular alerts
within its endless cage
blinks once for yes, just stares for no,
and fills those tubes with air.
a one-o-one-o "there she blows"
that's playing truth or dare
and it's got all the know-how
you better click on go now
it takes its breath from jars of glass
jam-packed with do-or-dies
it bows its head in morning mass:
transistor changes signs
it polishes your firewood
before it starts a blaze
it jots down all the bads and goods
it penetrates all haze
and it's got all the know-how
you better click on go now
it has got no say,
memories bartered away
at the 47th street diamond exchange.
for an easy lay
for you martyr ways
for the eleventh try on the test range.
with lenses ground from unused stones
it auto-tunes the view
until what's found in human bones
seems like a gift to you.
the instruments in constant threat
one stumble of the mule.
the trails marked on your father's map
are taught in every school
and it's got all the know-how
you better click on go now

The ocean breeze
03:17
|
|
||
mark the day when we'll stop caring
when our weight falls to the ground
the day we leave all of our bearings
and sail out into puget sound
and the ocean breeze messes up our hair
but we're too in love to care
mark the day when we'll start walking
past the dunes down to the coast
let the gulls do all the talking
now guess who I like the most
and the ocean breeze blows over our voice
and leaves our lashes moist
mark the day when we'll sing out again
that sweet song that's you and I
and the waves wash out our last refrain
as our boat flows with the tide
and the ocean breeze turns the bow around
may we never run aground
and the ocean breeze turns the bow around
may we never run aground

While time was gone
03:32
|
|
||
the fireworks have faded
before their sound even reaches me
it's just as far from you to those stars
as from those stars to me
and while time was gone
they kissed in the space it had left
morning sun sips in through the curtains,
light like her winter skin
they say if you look the right way, you'll find what you need,
when tomorrow's light breaks on today's things
and while time was gone
they kissed in the space it had left
I'll sing a song of love on her voicemail,
a few verses after the beep,
ten thousand tender miles,
I remain yours to keep
and in time, when I'm home
we'll kiss after everyone's left

My own horizon
03:27
|
|
||
my mind it still aches
with memories and thoughts,
traffic, license plates,
feelings and frauds
yet i cannot hate it
despite all the droughts
her moon can't be blamed
for the high-tide it brought.
I caressed her with my glances
but refused to take my chances
just smiled at her and breathe her eyes in
as I become my own horizon
we sung of the war crimes
the hours flew by
like a plane and its chalkline
in the afternoon sky
moved in synch with the windchimes
like the the rain we would fly
and draw circles and faultlines
in the afternoon sky
you spoke of that force
that pushed your boat 'gainst the pier
an ocean that roars
disembodies your fears but
those droplets on the floor
are water and not tears
and our reflections
are dancing in them
can you see our reflections
dancing in them

The neon lit
03:13
|
|
||
i don't know why the buzz
in my head, why the fuzz
too much music, too much feeling
tipping me over the realing.
i can't see it's much too foggy
brownish water, tasting boggy
no lack of color here
just an overdose of fear.
escape into the neon-lit
cannot stand another hit
leave your sad identity
outside this glassen entity
come, consume, don't cry
just say goodbye
(say goodbye)
i just cannot solve this
so just dissolve this pill;
though it won't kill this pain
no umbrella for my rain.
seem to slide down my chair
clown-like, into nowhere
and as my adolescence ends
they all send their condolences
escape into the neon-lit
cannot stand another hit
leave your sad identity
outside this glassen entity
come, consume, don't cry
just say goodbye
(say goodbye)

Post argument musings
03:55
|
|
||
a limousine spread kerosine all across the pavement,
I'm just a witness to the scene, I wonder what your wave meant.
I see the rainbows in the dark,
as if your brain glowed in the dark
I took a blow and then saw sparks
now I walk solo in the dark
my cigarette hissed in the rain, turned cold before it hit the ground
two silhouettes kissed yet again, then white noise drowned the signal out.
no nicotine or benzedrene can tell me what your wave meant
I'm stuck in these recurring dreams outside our shared apartment
I step in rainbows in the dark
walk as the crow flies, not the lark
as we run naked through the park
the skies much closer to our hearts
my cig...

Standstill
03:20
|
|
||
At night it was the sort of heat that makes half-moons feel full.
That's when they thought they'd got me beat, just like in raging bull.
But smoke got in their skies, I guess, the suspect's fled the scene.
He had a good disguise, I guess, and time did intervene.
The day I bought a weathered box of good morality
That's when they thought they'd figured out my genealogy
But bark up the wrong tree they did, I know that for a fact.
And in the canopy I hid, long branches they attract
The stone weighed lightly in my hand
they'll teach me how to throw it
best aim right at at the one-man band
and then I'll be a poet.
The evening that I thought I knew what I was hoping for
was when they came into my house, broke right through the front door
they'd tapped into my telephone, who thought I'd fall for that trick
the album that I played turned on, the sound of tearing fabric.

The air
02:05
|
|
||
the air it smells of snow, my love
it wears its cold hair long
blueish grey from up above
inspiration for a song
it comes by dogsled
rattling the windows
makes blooming flowers grow
the sun's revolving 'round the earth
I thought, you should know
coals are glowing in the stove
you put your head in my lap
still this don't feel like snow my love
more like icicles on tap
i say that's the sleigh
that won't stop no more
snow falls straight in our hearts
that's the sleigh
that won't stop no more
that won't stop no more

he left her nothing but his voice on the answering machine
one day, when it got a hold of her, she drove away just to call home
please leave a message after
the beep. i'll call you back
he left her nothing but his voice on the answering machine
she left him nothing but her breath.

Augúst is Jan Clemens and Arnulf Koehncke from Berlin and Hamburg.
More than ten years ago, we started playing dilettante acoustic post-rock together, but now we converged on something more folk-pop than that.
